Fire protection concepts
For us, fire protection does not end with the building permit. We develop technically sound, approvable and practicable concepts that take the requirements of later realisation into account from the planning stage onwards.

We review designs and technical solutions for compliance with regulations, technical plausibility and constructability. We question existing approaches, identify risks and assess critical interfaces – with the aim of ensuring technically convincing solutions that can be realised in practice.

Clear control sequences, traceable cause-and-effect relationships and manageable complexity. We develop and review fire cause-and-effect matrices with the aim of a reliable and verifiable interaction of safety systems.

From the fire protection concept to a quality-assured building model. We translate the requirements of the fire protection concept into precise attribution of the relevant building elements. Rule-based model checks reveal fire protection conflicts and design deviations in the digital model – long before they arise on site.

About us
Experience that goes beyond planning. Thomas Hanf has worked in preventive fire protection since 2008 – from developing fire protection concepts to supporting complex construction projects through realisation. His focus is on data centres and technically demanding construction projects. Involvement in data centre projects with a cumulative IT capacity of more than 800 MW has shaped his understanding of technical complexity, critical interfaces and the requirements for successful project realisation. This experience forms the foundation of HANF – an independent engineering company that combines technical quality with responsibility for its own contribution to project success.

Before founding HANF Advanced Fire Engineering GmbH, Thomas Hanf worked as a fire protection engineer, head of department and later head of the Frankfurt branch at leading German fire protection engineering firms. In this role he was responsible for developing fire protection concepts, providing technical support for major construction projects and coordinating between clients, specialist planners, authorities and contractors.
A particular focus of his work is data centres and critical infrastructure. Over the past years he has supported projects with a cumulative IT capacity of more than 800 MW – from the fire protection strategy and detailed design through to site supervision, commissioning and acceptance. His experience ranges from individual technical buildings to large-scale hyperscale campus developments.
His experience covers all project phases – from concept and approval through detailed design to on-site quality control during construction. For him, what matters is not only whether a solution can be approved, but above all whether it is practical, economical and operationally reliable.
Thomas Hanf is a Diplom-Ingenieur (FH) in civil engineering and holds a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Structural Fire Protection and Safety Engineering. At the Ingenieurkammer Hessen (Hessian Chamber of Engineers) he is listed as a specialist engineer for fire protection, as an engineer authorised to certify preventive fire protection and as a fire protection planner. His membership of the chamber also allows continuous professional exchange and active engagement with current developments in fire protection. He also holds qualifications in BIM, project management and construction supervision.
Today, HANF Advanced Fire Engineering combines the technical depth of a highly specialised fire protection engineering firm with a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach. We support clients, developers, general contractors and planners in successfully delivering complex projects – independently, reliably and with a clear focus on technically sound solutions.
